toniToni Zimmermann

I am Toni Zimmermann, 44 years old, single and live in Cape Town, South Africa.  I am HIV+ for 22 years, ARVs 12 years and extremely healthy (CD4 1186 and VL undetectable for 11 years). Most people don't know how normal one can live with the right attitude and knowledge. I enjoy cycling and dancing as sport but also almost any outdoors activities. I'm curious about life and people and believe in life long learning and discovery. Love exploring the beauty of the different cultures and nature around me - Africa is an amazing place.  I work as a Training and Development Practitioner at one of the largest retailers here in SA, I am studying BA Applied Psychology – 3rd year and I do a lot of public speaking.  I am completely open about my status.
Toni.

toniSo last year when my I reached 21 years of living with HIV I did two important things.

Firstly: I threw it a coming of age party … OK, so that was the coming of age, age when I was young.  My HIV knows it lives only as long as long as I do ;-) and we celebrate victories together.  It was quite a nice “Great Gatsby” Theme - lawn tea party, at the Mooikelder Manor, with croquet and everything.

toniOkay this is not going to be a long blog as I’m in the middle of exams at the moment but something has been on mind for a while now and since I’m new to blogging let me practice a bit.

During the last 18 months talk of finding a cure for HIV has certainly become a hot topic again and even though the prospect is awesome I suddenly hit a moment of panic.
